How to increase the virtual memory size in your computer ||TECH DK||
Virtual Memory
A computer can address more memory than the amount physically installed on the system.
This extra memory is actually called virtual memory and it is a section of a hard disk
that's set up to emulate the computer's RAM.
The main visible advantage of this scheme is that programs can be larger than physical memory.
Virtual memory serves two purposes. First, it allows us to extend the use of physical memory by using disk.
Second,it allows us to have memory protection, because each virtual address is translated to a physical address.
NOTE:
Low RAM size is not the only problem for slower performance.
The performance of your system also depend upon your processor speed and other factors.
So by increasing only the virtual memory you may not experience more performance speed.
Increasing the virtual memory will increase your performance a bit.
How to increase Virtual Memory size:
- Click Start button, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
- In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.
- On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
- Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, click Change.
- Clear the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives check box.
- Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
- Click Custom size, type a new size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, click Set, and then click OK.

How to calculate Windows 10 Virtual Memory / Pagefile:
There is a formula for calculating the correct pagefile size.
Initial size is one and a half (1.5) x the amount of total system memory.
Maximum size is three (3) x the initial size.
So let's say you have 4 GB (1 GB = 1,024 MB x 4 = 4,096 MB) of memory.
The initial size would be 1.5 x 4,096 = 6,144 MB and the maximum size would be 3 x 6,144 = 18,432 MB.👍
